151 HOMELESS DOGS PLACED IN 2002

Thank you to the many individuals who made this possible!

Shorewood Cocker Rescue successfully placed 151 dogs in 2002.  This number was made up of 79 males and 72 female cocker spaniels, cocker spaniel mixes and mixed breed dogs.  We also provided many dogs with veterinary treatment beyond the usual spay/neuter and vaccinations.  These treatments included repairing detached retina, removing cataracts, and herniated disc surgery.

We couldn't have done it without the help of numerous people, including many volunteers, donors and of course the adopting families...

We would also like to thank the following individuals who made tax exempt contributions to the rescue in 2002.  Your help is very much appreciated.

GETTING FROM POINT A TO POINT B

By Susan Gunay

Ever wonder how rescue dogs get from point A to point B?  It takes a very dedicated group of volunteers to do the transporting required of a busy rescue like Shorewood.  Shorewood volunteers are behind the wheel many times a week, especially on the weekends picking up surrendered cockers, bringing them in for vet care, doing placement visits at adopters' homes, and taking dogs to rescue events to meet the public. It's not uncommon to see a group of minivans and cars switching dog food, travel crates, adoption

paperwork and of course cocker spaniels in a parking lot or driveway somewhere in Wisconsin or northern Illinois.  It's all just part of the process of getting dogs ready for adoption.

Shorewood Cocker Rescue would like to thank the volunteers who donate their time and gas money to make sure Shorewood gets from point A to point B.

MEET SHOREWOOD RESCUE VOLUNTEERS

Sue & Kaz

"Kaz and I have been volunteers with the rescue since June 2000.  We became involved when we decided to add a second cocker spaniel to our family, and Kaz stumbled onto Shorewood Cocker Rescue on the Internet.  The rest, at they say, is history.

We are the proud owners of two wonderful cocker spaniels. Our first dog, Canim (pronounced "Jenum"), is nine years old, and Kaz and I have had him since he was eight weeks old.  Because we both work and Canim was alone all day for many hours, we decided he needed a buddy to keep him company, so that's when Prince came into the picture.  Prince is four years old and we adopted him from Shorewood Cocker Rescue about 2 1/2 years ago.

We both play different volunteer roles in the rescue.  Kaz likes to help out with computer and website support and also works at events and helps with marketing ideas.  I enjoy doing event coordination, the rescue newsletter, working at events and occasionally doing placements.  Being apart of the rescue has been a very fulfilling and fun experience.  We encourage other cocker lovers to consider fostering (which is one of our biggest needs) or helping out in other ways.  It's a great experience!"

 ADOPTION UPDATES

PATCH & CELLO
(Adopted in November 2001)

An Update from Patch & Cello's family:

"Hello and Seasons Geetings, just wanted to send a photo of the babies.  They just got their Christmas bath and hair cut today.  They both have come a long way in the last year and I'm very pleased with the progress.

Patch has come along faster than we had thought he would. He was on my lap the other night and stayed 50 times longer than he normally would have.  He usually sits next to my chair and begs for his attention. Cello is our little fat boy. Eats whatever is not nailed down and is the lap puppy. He uses his paws like we do our hands. They are both such a joy and we are so blessed to have them in our family. Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!"

An Update from Winston's Family:

"I just want to express the gratefulness I feel towards the wonderful people at Shorewood Cocker Rescue. I fell upon this site because I love Cocker Spaniels and as I was paging through the adoptable cockers I knew I needed to adopt one. We adopted Ollie, he was an angel, the most gentle dog and the most well behaved.  We fell in love with him and he became our family almost overnight. Sadly Ollie came down with Canine Chronic Active Hepatitis. He did not show any signs of the disease until it was in its final stages and there was nothing the doctors could do for him.  We lost Ollie to God on October 26th.

I thought I would never want to go through that again. My husband and daughter started to look for another rescue cocker.  I was hesitant but emailed about Baxter, however Baxter had a family waiting.  Carole asked me to consider Winston.  She encouraged me to go to the rescue fundraiser in Union Grove. She said Winston would be there.  We went to the fundraiser...Let's just say Winston has a forever home.  We have fallen in love again and it helps to heal the broken heart that Ollie left behind.  Thank you again."
