Duchess left this world for a better one on July 17th, 2008
In June of 2006, I started to foster a little black Cocker Spaniel named Duchess. She was the saddest little dog that I had ever fostered. When she finally started to come out of her shell, I was taken by her sweet disposition and quiet demeanor so I decided to adopt her myself. She got along well with everyone and just loved company. She reminded me of a little black jackrabbit when I would leave her run free in my yard in Wisconsin. She would check every corner for the rabbits and squirrels. The first year I had her I had to replace the deck screen door because she was so anxious to get to the squirrels that she took the door right off the track. All this and she only weighed 18 pounds.
Yesterday, I had to let that quiet little dog go over the Rainbow Bridge. She had lung cancer that spread very quickly. Medication did not help so I did what was best for her. Now she can chase all the squirrels and rabbits that she wants. I have tears in my eyes when I write this because I know I probably won't ever find another one like her.
