It is not often that we have to rescue the same dog twice. That is the case with Captain. In 2001 at the age of three, Captain came into rescue. He was totally blind. The rescue did a very expensive surgery and removed the cataract in one eye to restore his sight. He was a beautiful dog with a show background. Fast forward to 2008 Captain was returned to the rescue at the age of ten and at least 15 pounds overweight. His eye were in need of veterinary care. Again we went off to the ophthalmologist. He now has a condition called corneal endothelial dystrophy. This condition can result in blindness but at his age since the progression can be slowed, he could have vision for the rest of his days. He also has dry eye is one eye. Captain will need drops or ointment in both eyes for the rest of his life. Captain is now having his weight monitored so he can again be his handsome self.
Captain is housetrained. We do not crate him since he is totally trustworthy. He is a very special dog who deserves a very special person who will love and care for him.
